Road
Kills proper dull me out! & I cant believe the
number
of road kills on the Uk's roads.
The figures make horrific reading... approximately
50,000 badgers, 100,000 foxes and at least 10 million
birds are maimed or killed on our roads each year.
With increased road building, habitat loss and speeding
traffic ....& the unlimited number of Knobhead
boyracers out in their mums cars who think its a laugh
to run helpless animals over! (Yeah, you know the
ones, cruising the town with their 'music' pumping
& hanging outside McD's!) there is no immediate
solution, but a number of Wildlife/Animal funds &
charities are studying, and looking at measures to
protect wildlife on roads.
Before
protective measures can be taken extensive research
is first necessary and the Mammal
Society has launched a nation-wide survey to collate
information on road conditions and wildlife casualties.
This data will be used to investigate solutions to
reduce the high death toll.
The
unnecessary killing, cruelty or mistreatment of animals,
pets and wildlife is a big NO NO as far as were concerned
and something we feel very strongly about. Bear in
mind & keep an eye out for our furry (& feathery,
scaley..etc) friends when driving, out-and-about!
